Kanchenjunga base camp trekking, one of longest and wonderful adventure around Himalaya, covering three-week duration to enjoy fascinating views and with daily scenic walks. Kanchenjunga base camp trekking a great adventure for people in search of long walks with enjoyable time to experience dramatic scenery and local mountain villages traditions and culture of age-old heritage.

Mt. Kanchenjunga stands as world 3 rd highest mountains and the second high of Nepal at 8,586 m and 28,169 ft the first conquest by British Expeditions in 1955 led by late Sir George Band. The mountain located Nepal Far East region straddles the border between Nepal and Sikkim (a small state of Northern India), where most of the adventure and climb taken from Nepalese side due to its accessibility to reach its both base camps of North and South.

Kanchenjunga base camp trekking starts with a sweeping flight from Kathmandu to reach sub-tropical low areas of Terai the flat area of Nepal on landing at Bhadrapur airport, where a drive leads to cooler alpine hills at a scenic location in Ilam town is famous for Tea and vast tea-garden.

The drive ends at Taplejung where the walk begins heading due northeast first to reach at Kanchenjunga southern base camp near Yarlung glacier at Oktang, the original base camp since 1955 when the mountain was first climbed from this southern route. From here walk leads to a climb crossing three passes covered within a dense forest of tall rhododendron and pine trees to reach the other side of Kanchenjunga area at Ghunsa, a village inhabited by mountain tribes of Buddhism religion and culture.

After Ghunsa walk leads towards north Kanchenjunga base camp at Pang-Pema where tree lines and vegetation drops for dry country of the moraine, rocks, ice, and glaciers on reaching at North Kanchenjunga base camp at above 5,065 m high surrounded by a giant massive range of Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Enjoying marvelous time and moments where walk leads back into farm villages and around nice forest areas to reach at Sukhetar to end our long walk for a scenic drive to reach low warm areas of Jhapa where swift sweeping flight brings you back at Kathmandu after a great adventure and experience on Kanchenjunga base camp trekking.

Trek Itinerary Detail:

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel.

On reaching Kathmandu international airport received by White Lotus staff/guide for short transfer in the heart of Kathmandu at Thamel area an interesting place after checking into your hotel room, meet at the hotel lobby for group briefing on Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking with other information to make your stay in Nepal enjoyable.

The evening includes welcome dinner in authentic Nepalese restaurants with culture program of the country.

Day 02: In Kathmandu options for a sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities where you can join in our sightseeing tour around the city places of Interest as Kathmandu valley steeped with world heritage sites, rest of the day preparing for Kanchenjunga Base Camp trekking.

Day 03: Fly to Bhadrapur 350 m and drive to Ilam town 1,360 m with 45 mins air flight and 4 hrs drive for an overnight stop.

Morning short scenic flight to reach Nepal Far East region to land at low warm areas of Terai the flatland of the country at Bhadrapur town, from here exciting drive to reach cooler hilly areas. As drive leads to Ilam town for an overnight stop, famous for Tea-Garden and its products and a nice scenic place of the region.

Day 04: Drive to Sukhetar 1,490 m start trek to Lalikharka 1,900 m-06 hrs.

Morning short drive to reach Taplejung area at Sukhetar, a place with small airstrip flight to Biratnagar city and to Kathmandu operates on a daily basis. But flights to and from Kathmandu and Biratnagar to Sukhetar sometimes get delayed and canceled many unpredictable situations, that is why have changed for flight to and from Bhadrapur instead, to make our itinerary program safe and enjoyable.

On reaching hill town at Sukhetar, where walks begins heading further east past nice farm villages and terraced fields with a patch of forest as our afternoon the first-day trek reach at our overnight stop at Lalikharka, also known as Lali-Bhanjyang. A small typical Nepalese Hill village inhabited mostly by Kirat tribes the Limbu people with some Rai and other Hindu people Chettries and Brahmins.Day 05: Trek from Kande Bhanjyang 2,100m -07 hrs.

The morning starts with a downhill walk into farm villages, populated mostly with Hindu tribe mixture of Brahmins, Chettris and as well Kirat tribes known as Rai and Limbu, also practice Hinduism along with their own ancient culture and deities of nature spirit.

After walking past the village of Tembawa descending towards Phawa Khola, crossing Phawa Khola coming to Pokora village, the path from here leads through terraced farm fields, and finally crossing Pokora "suspension bridge our route climbs steeply to the village of Kunjari, a mountain village, from Kunjari walk leads through mixed forest with some small farm villages, and then climb to our overnight stop at kande Bhanjyang, a small farm village with grand views of Kanchenjunga and Yalungkang peaks.

Day 06: Trek to Phompe Danda 1,850m-06 hrs.

From this small place morning walk leads to descend into lush terraced rice and millet fields, then through the densely forested area within headwaters of Nandeva Khola. After crossing a stream trek continues on a downhill to a river, as the route enters up at high hills where climb leads to Lopoding village. After Lopoding as walk heads with ups and a down-hill path to reach a mountain village at Yangpang, and then walk along upper edge of the ridge with a climb on gentle slope for an hour to Pompe Dhada at the crest of a scenic ridge, an excellent spot for overnight stop with view of Mt. Jannu.

Day 07: Trek to Yangphudin 2,150m at Sherpa Gaon - 07 hrs.

Morning walk starts on winding downhill past hamlets and terraced farm fields to Khesewa khola, after crossing a suspension bridge as walk leads to a climb to reach another resting spot, after a gradual ascent for an hour through terraced fields, then heading towards Mamankhe village. Afternoon leads to slow climb, skirting around a ridge to a level path that leads to Dekadin village.

On this walk facing views of peaks, and then descend to Kabeli khola, leaving the river behind as our route climbs to a splendid ridge through villages and farm fields. After a climb reaching an isolated village of Yamphudin from here climb to a hill for an overnight stop at Sherpa Gaon. This is the last permanent human settlement inhabited by Sherpa tribe till our adventures reach the other side at Gunsa. The campsite will be in a field or in village yards.

Day 08: Trek to Dorongding 2,880 m via Lashe Tham, 3,800m Pass- 07 hrs.

From this small Sherpa village trek leads to Chitre, walk along Kabeli khola, crossing tributary of Omje khola and start climbing steep up to Dhupi Bhangyang for two hours or more through open grassland. From the top of Lahse Tham at 3,800 m pass and then leading to a steady descent through the deciduous forest to Omje Khola.

After tough climb reaching on top of a ridge, where our walks lead to Dorongding past Chitre for an overnight halt in this small and scenic place with views of snow-capped peaks.

Day 09: Trek to Tseram 3,770m - 05 hrs.

From the camp walks towards Ramite Bhanjyang (3,430m.), over steep uphill for few hours into magnolias, rhododendron, and bamboo forest to reach at Ramite a,place with single hut, from here our path leads to a climb within rhododendron tree-covered ridge, passing towards a small pond on the right.

From here crossing stream as the walk continues reaching a gravel ground, and then walk past this area leads to a shrine with a huge boulder shaped like a serpent. Walking past forested areas our route leads to a riverbed, then ascending from riverbed path up to a terrace for an overnight stop at Tseram, a place with roofless bivouac caves. Ahead views of terminal moraine fed from Yalung glacier and behind looking at Kabru 7,353m and Talung peak 7,349m.

Day 10: At Tseram hike to Oktang near Kanchenjunga South Base Camp.

Rest day at Tseram for a day hike to Oktang which is near to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, where British expedition established a base camp for the climb of Kanchenjunga summit in 1955. The hike leads with a close view of Yalung Glacier and south wall of Kanchenjunga, the hike takes for nearly three hours with views of Talung Peak and Kabru. After a scenic and exciting hike back to Tserem for an overnight stop.

Day 11: Cross Tselele pass 4,250m and camp at Tselele bottom 3,700m - 08 hrs.

Today, descend via Yalung Bar with fifteen minutes of steep up, crossing a river and then on a gradual path through a forest, and then a steep climb for an hour and a half towards two small ponds. From here cross three passes, Miring La, Tamo La, and Selele pass.

The first part of the trail is an uphill climb for 1 hour to the top of the pass with the great view of Kabru and Kanchenjunga. From Miring La, the trail goes gently down and then up to Selele La (4,250 m). From the top of the pass magnificent views of Makalu, Baruntse, and Chamlang and then descend gently to the base of the pass for an overnight stop.

Day 12: Trek to Ghunsa 3,480 m - 04 hrs.

The first part of the walk is on gentle downslope and then leads to a steep descend for an hour into forest of rhododendron and pines as the walk reach a level ground near Ghunsa river, from here on gradual path to Ghunsa village for overnight in a village inhabited by Bhotia tribe (Tibetan origin) with community stone houses a neat and tidy small farm.

Day 13: Trek to Khambachen 4,000m -06hrs.

Walk from here leads to climbing following a river with views of waterfalls along the walks, Yak herders may be met along the trail depending upon grazing season. The trail goes from the right bank of river Ghunsa, and through rhododendron and pine forest, a walk leads to a gradual ascend to Rambuk Kharkas and then crossing a small glacier landslide. The trek continues with excellent views of Khumbukarna and Janu and other high snow-capped peaks. On leaving tree lines behind, heading into a barren country with few short bushes and scrub of juniper, after Rambuk Kharka climb, and then trail leads to a gentle down to Khambachen after crossing a landslide section to camp at Khambachen. This scenic valley dominated by peaks of Sharphu (7,070m.) with north face of Mt. Janu and Wedge peak.

Day 14: Trek to Lhonak 4,780m - 06 hrs.

From here our route follows above the river for an hour and then heading further east, as our walk heads down to a river, as climbs reach rocks and boulder areas leading to a terminal moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier, on leaving Ramtang Kharka (a Sheppard place) where trail joins Kanchenjunga glacier and then crossing at a junction of Lhonak and Kanchenjunga glacier overlooking grand views of Mera, Nepal Peak and Wedge Peak.

Day 15: Hike to Pang-Pema Kanchenjunga North Base Camp 5,143 m /16,869 ft.

Morning hike to Pang-Pema the major highlight of the adventure around North Kanchenjunga base camp. Start with gentle climb facing views of Kirat Chuli, Nepal Peak, Taple Sikhar, and Givegela Chuli. The first part of the climbs is gentle and then heading through a boulder on a rocky trail. Walk in between grassy slopes and to a glacier path up at Kanchenjunga North Base Camp with chances of spotting herds of blue sheep's around this wilderness of mountains and glaciers. After a wonderful moment within massive Kanchenjunga peaks and then back to camp at Lhonak with wonderful walks and memories of Kanchenjunga North base camp.

Day 16: Trek to Ghunsa, 3,480 m - 08hrs.

The journey leads back on the same path past Kambachen to camp at Ghunsa after a long day walks.

Day 17: Trek to Gyapla Phedi 2,300m - 07hrs.

From here walk on alternative route allows you to observe more of the beautiful country looking at views of mountains past scattered cattle herder summer camps to reach at Gypla Phedi, on lower alpine areas for an overnight stop.

Day 18: Trek to Sekathum / Japantar 1,350m - 07 hrs.

With pleasant easy morning walking towards warmer areas back into farm fields and terraces within nice rural villages to reach Sekathum or near to Japantar for an overnight stop, where walks lead into much lower areas within farm villages growing much better crops and citric fruits.

Day 19: Trek to Chirwa 1,250 m - 06 hrs.

Enjoy the walk heading much lower and warm areas, as morning trek progress into several scattered farmhouses and fields, where you will be greeted with friendly cheerful smiles as walk leads through villages and patch of cool forest areas to reach at Chirwa for overnight stops.

Day 20: Trek to Phurumbu School 1,500 m -07hrs.

Although our route leads downhill, and coming into areas with a short climb to negotiate with a shade of cool air after getting much warmer around low and foothills of Kanchenjunga areas, slowly our walk reaching a small place to camp at Phurumbu School premises.

Day 21: Trek to Suketar 2,440 m -04 hrs.

Last day of the adventure walk leads to Sukhetar around Tapeljung village and town within more farm villages as walk leads reach at Sukhetar for an overnight stop.

Day 22: Drive to Ilam drive with overnight in local Lodge.

At Ilam where our adventure completes an exciting drive to reach hill town of Ilam within its vast fields of Tea Garden, the flavor of the local tea much appreciated throughout Nepal and abroad. Few hours of scenic drive brings you at Ilam, with time to wander around and as well observe the local culture and custom of great interest.

Day 23: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

The morning after early breakfast drive to reach at Bhadrapur airport for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu, during air facing breathtaking panorama of mountains from Kanchenjunga-Makalu, Everest, and range of peaks, ass flight touches Kathmandu airport and then transfer to your hotel.

Day 24: International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.

As per your international flight time for homeward bound or to next respective destinations, depart from the hotel where White Lotus staff transfer you to Kathmandu International airport with final farewell after a great adventure and experience on ‘Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking’.
