Lower Dolpo trekking takes you around the beautiful and scenic country of Nepal Far West Himalaya, on least ventured areas by main flow of trekkers and visitors as the area falls within remote and far from main cities and towns. Lower Dolpo Trekking will be your great adventure of lifetime experience soaking within marvelous scenery of dramatic landscapes and snow-capped peaks and in the country where wild-animals habitats like rare elusive snow-leopard and herd of blue sheep.

An exciting and scenic journey in the backdrop of an ancient culture of Bon and Buddhism religions, the Bon practice still exists which was before Buddhism came into Tibet and around Dolpo areas, then coming to present Buddhism where all villagers of Dolpo enjoys and worships both.

An adventure that involves both ways flight due to its remoteness taking air journey from Kathmandu to reach Nepal Far South at Nepalgunj around a sub-tropical city and then heading towards Dolpo on connecting flight from Nepalgunj. Walk first takes to a marvelous country where route leads past Dunai headquarter town of Dolpo region and past nice villages of Thakuri and Malla the ancient hill tribe interwoven with Hindu religion and then heading towards beautiful Phoksumdo Lake also called Ringmo Lake.

Enjoy peaceful and scenic times exploring Ringmo village and around the lake, where from here onward entering into more Bon and Buddhist cultural area as walk leads to cross high pass of Baga-la and Numa-la to reach another eastern side of Inner Dolpo.

After great walks and crossing scenic passes to reach at attractive villages of Tokyu and Dho-Tarap with time to visit around its nice village and monasteries of great interest and then route leads on the longest valley of Dolpo to Tarakot village. Tarakot an interesting village of historical background during ancient medvial times of Malla kingdom period, from here walk slowly comes to an end on reaching Dunai and then at Jhupal for last final stop before flying back to Kathmandu.

A sweeping flight takes you to land at Nepalgunj and continue air journey to Kathmandu with a grand panorama of Himalaya range, at Kathmandu transfer to your hotel after a great exciting adventure on Lower Dolpo Trekking.

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: From Kathmandu fly to Nepalgunj city and transfer to hotel.

Day 03: Fly to Juphal 2,475 m and trek to Dunai 2,140 m -04 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Chhekpa 2,678 m- 05hrs.

Day 13: Trek to Tarap Khola 3,652 via Chhyugar 3,440 m - 06 hours.

Day 14: Trek to Tarakot 2,540 m - 06 hrs.

Day 15: Trek to Dunai - 05 hrs then drive to Jhupal - 02 hr jeep ride.

Day 16: Fly to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj and transfer to hotel.

Day 17: Contingency day in case of flight disturbance to and from Jhupal

Day 18: International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel.

On reaching Kathmandu international airport received by White Lotus staff/guide for short transfer in the heart of Kathmandu at Thamel area an interesting place after checking into your hotel room, meet at the hotel lobby for group briefing for Lower Dolpo Trekking with other information to make your stay in Nepal enjoyable.

The evening includes welcome dinner in authentic Nepalese restaurants with culture program of the country.

Day 02: Fly to Nepalgunj 150m and transfer to hotel.

Morning or midday fly to Nepalgunj located Far South West Nepal scenic sweeping flights of about 55 minutes to land at low warm areas at Nepalgunj city airport.

During airborne fantastic views a panorama of snow-capped mountains from the take-off in Kathmandu to landing at Nepalgunj airport, on reaching Nepalgunj airplane terminal exchange to a pleasant lodging inside its city zone. Nepalgunj, situated close to Indian border of UP (Utter Pradesh), where local people traditions resembles with Indian culture and way of life.

Day 03: Fly to Juphal 2,475 m and trek to Dunai 2,140 m -04 hrs.

Morning early breakfast for short connecting flight to land at Jhupal at Dolpo area, during these grand flight perspectives on Dhaulagiri and other western Himalaya, on coming to at Jhupal following 35-40 minutes on air where our staff and watchmen get you.

From Jhupal, subsequent to getting sorted out and after that couple of long periods of energizing jeep drive contacts you at Dunai the principle headquarter and the authoritative town of an entirety Dolpa zone. In Dunai for an overnight stop in the comfort of the nice local lodge, afternoon walk around Dunai town and watch its fascinating nearby culture and customary life.

Day 04: Trek to Chhekpa 2,678 m- 05hrs.

After a night in Dunai, walk leads to market area to a bridge above Thulo Bheri River, as climb leads to a ridge over Phoksumdo River valley with views of Kagmara peak.

Walk then leads to long descend past farm villages and fields growing walnuts and close Dhera stream, a small cattle herders settlements and then short climb to Rahagaon village of Thakuri a Hindu local tribe. As walk prompts downhill way into forested region to achieve our medium-term camp at Chhepka a little ranch town.

Day 05: Trek to Samduwa 3,038 m -05 hrs.

From Chhepka located close to Ankhe village, as morning walk takes to short climb and then descend into a forested area to reach a river bank, from here climb after leaving the forest.

On reaching top of a ridge with downhill to forest leading to cross a small bridge at Ryajik village, trek further to Samduwa for an overnight stop near the entrance of Phoksumdo National Park.

Day 06: Trek to Phoksundo Lake 3,600m / 11,808 ft -05 hrs.

Morning walk heading first to Phoksundo Lake after walking past Pungmo Khola (stream) valley, as walk follows Pungmo Khola downhill into pine and birch trees to reach upper side of Phoksumdo Khola. After a short reviving stop proceed with a stroll to Ringmo town, an intriguing Tibetan origin village adorned with mud plastered Chorten and Mani (prayer) walls.

From here a short walk leads to Phoksundo Lake for overnight by the shore of beautiful turquoise Lake of Phoksundo.

Day 07: Rest and acclimatization day at Phoksundo Lake.

A perfect spot for rest day around scenic spot within a beautiful lake, with time for short walks and hike with views of Kagmara peaks, visit interesting Ringmo village located close to the lake.

Day 08: Cross Baga La 5,075 m and to Phedi 4,470m - 07 hrs.

After an enjoyable and exciting rest stop at Ringmo village and around Phoksundo Lake, morning walk leads to reach another side of Dolpo area. As our route leads east to cross a few passes, walking on a pleasant trail with a steep uphill to reach over Baga-la at 5,070 meters.

A steep uphill for few hours to reach on top where you will be rewarded with a superb panorama of Phoksumdo lake and Kagmara peaks, after a scenic stop walk leads to a long descend to overnight camp at Phedi (bottom of the hill).

Day 09: Cross Numa-la 5,190 m and to walk to other Phedi - 08 hrs.

From here morning walk leads to another pass at Numa-la at above 5,190 meters,the highest point of the adventure, walk leads to a climb on nice grassy slopes for about three hours and then reaching on top Numa-la, facing grand views of topped mountains from Dhaulagiri mountain range to Kagmara pinnacle and looking down at beautiful valleys with dramatic landscapes.

After an enjoyable stop descend to the base of the Pass, with a gradual path to reach our overnight camp around Yak summer pasture.

Day 10: Trek to Tokyu Gaon 4,200m via Jeng la 5,090 m - 06 hrs.

After days in complete isolation away from villages, today’s walk leads to an interesting village of Tokyu-Gaon, one of the largest village of Inner Dolpo, morning starts with a steep climb for two hours to the top of Jeng-la with grand views of snow-capped mountains with Mt. Dhaulagiri North Face, on enjoying the fantastic views, then descend towards Tarap valley, which is one of the longest wonderful green valley reaching out around 20 k.m along Tarap Chu River, with additional than 10 villages with well tended farm fields, monasteries and Chorten.

Overnight stop at Tokyu Gaon, an interesting village with an old monastery, afternoon visit the monastery or just relax and observe the local with farming and daily activities.

Day 11: Trek to Dho Tarap 3, 944 m- 05 hrs.

After Tokyu Gaon, morning begins on a downhill to Tarap Chu on a more extensive green valley, one of the scenic broader valley of the area, here you will notice many Sheppard’s settlements of Yaks and Sheep, as walk proceeds to our medium-term camp at Dho Tarap, another interesting village of mix tribes of Tibetans origin and Magar hill tribe people.

Day 12: Trek to Ghymagar 3,759 m - 07 hrs.

From here a long dive to Tarap valley, one of the biggest and longest valleys of Dolpo area which is about 20 k.m. which stretches following Tarap Chu River most of the way to joins with Thuli Bheri River near Tarakot village, walk leads past Langa with beautiful cascading waterfalls heading due south following the trail after Sisaul and a small place of Kesila around Yak herders temporary camps to reach our overnight camp at Ghymagar.

Day 13: Trek to Tarap Khola 3,652 via Chhyugar 3,440 m - 06 hours.

Today walks on Tarap nice valley, as the trail enters into a narrow gorge with some vegetation of bushes of juniper and wild rose, walk leads past Toltol with a large overhanging cave, around this area might see some wildlife like Naur or Blue Sheep and other animals.

As the walk advance achieving a juncture of River Tarap Chu and Lang Khola, overnight camp by the river after a long day walk of about 6 hours.

Day 14: Trek to Tarakot 2,540 m - 06 hrs.

Morning walk begins past little towns and after that going into little timberland region, following a river all the way to Tarakot, this is one of the important and large towns of Dolpo with fascinating history houses an old verifiable stronghold (Dzong or Kot) to guard the village against outsiders in early days.Tarakot village with famous old Sandul Gomba located at the junction of Barbung Khola and Tarap Chu River where our medium-term camp is set.

Day 15: Trek to Dunai - 05 hrs then drive to Jhupal - 02 hr jeep ride.

After a fabulous time at Tarakot, our last day walk leads to Dunai for short while and after that taking a short drive to Jhupal for the trip back to Kathmandu. The morning starts walking into a spread out villages and farm huts, walk on the wider path with some short uphill and downhill to reach Thuli Bheri River valley and then at Dunai, on reaching Dunai for lunch. From here jeeps drive back to Jhupal to catch our next morning flight to Nepalgunj unto Kathmandu.

Day 16: Flight from Juphal to Nepalgunj and connect flight to Kathmandu.

From Jhupal morning short flight to Nepalgunj city airport, with time to get refreshed before connecting flight back Kathmandu on reaching Kathmandu transfer to your hotels.

Day 17: Contingency day in case of flight disturbance to and from Jhupal

A free and reserve day in Kathmandu in case of flight delay and cancellation at Jupal in Dolpo, which can occur sometimes even in good seasons as Himalayan weather can be unpredictable sometimes with unfavorable climate conditions for flights around mountain region.

Day 18: International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.

As per your international flight time for homeward bound or to next respective destinations, depart from the hotel where White Lotus staff transfer you to Kathmandu International airport with final farewell after a great adventure and experience on ‘Lower Dolpo Trekking’.
