Makalu Base Camp Trekking begins with the sweeping scenic flight from Kathmandu to land at low warm areas around Arun valley at Tumlingtar, then heading higher into cooler hills to start our adventurous walks from the village of Num. The walk leads down and ups and then leaving the last farm villages of Seduwa and Tasi-Gaon for remote isolated areas of scenic Barun valley, as walk climbs into the dense lovely forest of pines, rhododendron, oaks and fir tree lines.
In springtime the hills are alive when wildflowers are in full bloom where trekkers can witness various species of rhododendron flowers from tree to bush with exotic flora and fauna that exists in this wild environment on route Makalu base camp.
As adventure progress reaching a wide valley of Barun enclosed by high rocky cliffs, hills and snow-capped peaks a wonderful spot and Yak grazing pasture of the villagers below Kongma-la. Then walk leads to our main highlight at Makalu base camp on the highest point of the trek hidden behind giant peaks of Makalu, Chamlang and Baruntse with views of Mt. Everest rare East Face known as ‘Kangsung face’.
After an enjoyable time at Makalu base camp walk leads on the same scenic route to capture more views along the walks back at Num and then drive to Tumlingtar around warm areas for the flight to Kathmandu to complete our adventure and remarkable experience on Makalu Base Camp Trekking.

Free day in Kathmandu for leisure activities where you can join in our sightseeing tour around the city places of Interest as Kathmandu valley steeped with world heritage sites, rest of the day preparing for Makalu Base Camp trekking.Day 03: Fly to Tumlingtar 860 m (45 mins by air) and drive to Num 1,500 m
Morning short scenic flight to reach Nepal Far East region to land at low warm areas of Arun Valley at Tumlingtar a nice moderate size town located on a shelf of Arun River. From Tumlingtar adventure starts with an exciting drive to reach cooler hilly areas, as drive leads past the large town of Kandbari, headquarter to Sanka-Sava district of Makalu region.
As drive follows on winding mountain road uphill to reach at Num a farm village slowly developing into a town due to the construction of motor road since the past decade.Day 04: Trek to Seduwa 1,493 m - 05 hrs.
The first-day walk starts with long descend for an hour to cross a bridge above Arun River, and then uphill to Seduwa village, walking past Runmura a small farm village, and then with a gradual climb to reach at Seduwa village for overnight stop and camp.Day 05: Trek to Tashi-Gaon 2,100 m - 05 hrs.
From Seduwa farm village, short day walk day as morning lead on winding gradual path to reach at Tashi-Gaon a moderate size farm village populated by Sherpa community. This is the last village on the way to Makalu base camp, where the route leads around farm area to reach Tashi-Gaon for lunch and overnight camp, here with time to explore the village of great interest around to witness Sherpa Buddhist culture and age-old traditional life.Day 06: Trek Kohma Danda 3,500 m /11,482 ft- 06 hrs.
With a pleasant overnight stop in Tashi Gaon and on last farm village, where walk leaves behind human settlement for a week, as walk leads within a dense forest of rhododendron, oaks and pines trees past several cattle herder’s shelters and shades.
Walk few hours on the good moderate trail and then climb for few hours to reach on top Kongma ridge, where tall tree fades to small rhododendron and juniper bushes.
Overnight camp is set overlooking views of world third high Mt. Kanchenjunga with Mt. Makalu and adjoining peaks.Day 07: Trek to Mumbuk 3,400 m - 06 hrs.
From Kongma walk leads into complete wilderness following a ridge ups and down to reach at glacial ponds of Thulo Pokhari (large) with Sano Pokhari(small), and then cross over Tutu-la and Shipton la above 4, 453 m high passes, with downhill heading back into dense forest to our overnight camp in the midst of tree lines at Mumbuk.Day 08: Trek to Nehe Kharka 3,750 m- 05 hrs.
Morning walks heads down to scenic Barun valley, a scenic place as well famous for rare species of vegetation- plants that are almost lost in this part of the world, where medicinal herbs and mountain animals are found around. On reaching Barun valley, walk leads to gradual up with views of peaks on both sides of the valley and then encountering several Yak herder shelters and a small Buddhist Gompa (monastery), after a nice good walk reaching to our overnight camp at Nehe Kharka with scenic Barun valley.Day 09: Trek to Langmale Kharka 4,410 m - 05 hrs.
From Barun valley trek to Langmale Kharka close to a place called Shersong situated at the end of Barun valley on route close to Makalu base camp as walk lead to slow uphill then crossing streams with views of Mt. Makalu and Baruntse peaks, after a good walk of the day reaching at Langmale Kharka for overnight stop.Day 10: Trek to Makalu Base Camp 4,870 m / 15,978 ft - 06 hrs.
After this camp at Langmale Kharka where walk today leads to our main highlight and destination at Makalu Base Camp, as walk climbs on a high path over moraine and ice within rocky areas to reach Makalu base camp, located close to a glacial icy pond next to Baruntse Himal.
Our overnight stops beneath towering South Face of Mt. Makalu, with time to explore and enjoy views of surrounding high peaks.Day 11: Rest Day to explore Makalu Base Camp.
Rest day at Makalu base camp facing views of Mt. Makalu, Baruntse Himal and peak IV, options for a hike for more scenic panorama where one view Mt. Everest rare East Face known as Kangshung with Mt. Lhotse.Day 12: Trek to Yangre Kharka 3,645 m - 06 hrs.
From Makalu base camp retrace walk back to lower Barun valley to reach at Yangle Kharka for overnight stop enclosed within high rocky cliffs, offering views of waterfalls.Day 13: Trek to Mumbuk - 06 hrs.
After a great wonderful time within scenic Barun valley, walk towards the end of Barun valley and then climb back into the forest at Mumbuk for overnight camp.Day 14: Trek to Kohma Danda - 06 hrs.
Morning heading back on the same scenic trail to reach at Kongma ridge, starting with a climb for an hour into forest areas to reach a ridge after leaving tree lines, a walk leads past the glacial ponds and over Tutu la and Shipton la to Kongma hill for an overnight stop.Day 15: Trek to Tashi-Gaon - 04 hrs.
Today ends our high altitude walk as morning route lead to long downhill into a forested area to reach Tashi-Gaon time in the afternoon for walks around Nawa or Narbu gaon village to explore nice farm village.Day 16: Trek to Num via Seduwa - 06 hrs.
Morning walk follows to Seduwa village, a pleasant morning walk taking time to observe local village farm life than reaching at Seduwa from here our last day walk of the adventure leads to long descend to Arun River. Crossing bridge then with last steep climb reaches you at Num village for an overnight stop and last day around high hills of Makalu Himalaya.Day 17: Drive back to Tumlingtar - 04 hrs.
Morning adventure starts with an exciting drive to reach Tumlingtar heading past farmland and Khandbari town finally drive ends at Tumlingtar with time to stroll around this interesting town, observe local culture and traditional life of eastern Nepal.Day 18: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
The morning after breakfast transfer to Tumlingtar airport for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu, during air facing breathtaking panorama of mountains from Kanchenjunga-Makalu, Everest, and range of peaks, ass flight touches Kathmandu airport and then transfer to your hotel.Day 19: Free and spare day in Kathmandu as a contingency.
In Kathmandu a free day, reserved as a contingency in case of flight delay with unfavorable weather condition or on route trekking, where you can use this day for individual activities or join in for sightseeing tour.Day 20: International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.
